Recent heavy rainfall and upstream runoff have caused severe flooding across various parts of the Feni district. Although water levels have started to recede in some areas, the suffering of the local people remains. In particular, the breach in the Silonia embankment has created fresh panic, as water continues to enter through the broken section, inundating low-lying residential areas once again.
Local residents reported that the Silonia embankment had not undergone proper maintenance for a long time. As a result, it could not withstand the pressure and collapsed, allowing floodwaters to rush into surrounding villages. Homes, roads, and crops have suffered extensive damage. Children are unable to attend school, there is a shortage of clean drinking water, and the risk of waterborne diseases is rising.
In this time of crisis, the Alhaj Shamsul Hoque Foundation (ASH Foundation) is actively working on the ground to support affected communities. The foundation is distributing food, clean water, medicine, and dry goods while also coordinating with local authorities and volunteers to help repair the damaged embankment.
We hope that more organizations, individuals, and government bodies will come forward to stand beside the people of Feni during this disaster. Urgent attention is also needed to repair and reinforce vulnerable infrastructure like the Silonia embankment to prevent future calamities.
