A non-governmental organization (NGO) holding Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC)
Alhaj Shamsul Hoque Foundation (ASH Foundation) has announced legal action in response to fabricated and misleading news reports about a mosque construction project in Nepal.
At a press conference on Saturday morning in Chittagong's Lalkhan Bazar, the organization's chairman, Engr. Muhammed Nasir Uddin stated that several online portals, including Blitz, Highland Post, and Organiser—along with social media- have recently spread "deliberate false information" against ASH Foundation and him.
He alleged that these reports tried to link the construction of 'Masjid-e-Razzaq' in Nepal's Sunsari district to "militancy, religious conversion, and international conspiracy." In reality, the project began at the request of the local Muslim community and had the approval of the Nepalese government. Public officials, including a local member of parliament (MP) and ward councillors, attended the mosque's foundation stone laying ceremony.
Engr. Muhammed Nasir Uddin stated that ASH Foundation is a registered, non-political, and humanitarian organization approved by the government of Bangladesh. He highlighted the organization's various activities, including providing free ambulance services during Durga Puja, distributing relief in flood-affected areas, and installing tube wells to support minority communities in Bangladesh.
During the press conference, he accused controversial journalist Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury of publishing a "defamatory and hateful" report in Blitz. He claimed the report linked ASH Foundation to Pakistan's ISI and militant networks without any evidence. ASH Foundation strongly condemned the publication of false news and demanded justice for those involved and called for the cancellation of the registration of the Blitz newspaper. The organization said that it has already started working to take legal action.
At the beginning of the press conference, the Holy Al-Qur’an was recited by PS to Chairman Rezaur Rahman; the program was conducted by Ash Foundation’s Project Coordinator Tanvir Sikder. Also present were the foundation’s Volunteer Coordinator Abu Bakkar Siddiq Piyas, Assistant Coordinator (IT) Swaroop Majumdar, and Assistant Coordinator (Press Media and Communication) Jubair Uddin.
