A man of immense dignity and self-respect is Manu Mia. Though he started from Kishoreganj, he has voluntarily dug graves for 3,057 people across districts including Sylhet and Dhaka. He has meticulously recorded every grave, noting the date, time, and full details of the deceased. In his words, upon hearing of someone's death, he rushes to dig their grave on his own initiative. In this noble effort, he even participated in preparing the graves of former President Zillur Rahman and former Mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka.
His Red horse was also his faithful companion in this grave-digging mission for many years. He sold land just to purchase this cherished red horse to reach grave sites—and even today, remembering that horse brings tears to his eyes.We informed him that we had come all the way from Chattogram to Dhaka just to meet him. We told him that we had already finalized the purchase of a spirited new red horse in Rangpur, hoping to surprise him with it at the hospital today. After assessing his health, we were considering whether to let him ride the horse or arrange for a horse cart instead.
However, his nephew informed us that he would be happier to see us than to receive a horse. True to his nature, the self-respecting Manu Mia gently refused both the horse and the cart.He simply does not want to accept anything from anyone. When we reminded him that accepting a gift is a Sunnah (Prophetic tradition), he promptly replied that both giving and receiving gifts are Sunnah.
He warmly invited us to visit his home in Kishoreganj. This 75-year-old, deeply humane soul was then asked if he had any unfulfilled wishes. After a brief pause, he shared that performing Umrah is something he has always longed for. With love and respect, we told him that we would like to gift him an Umrah pilgrimage. We requested that he let us know as soon as he recovers, and we will arrange everything, In Sha Allah.
He said he would consider it once he gets better.May the Almighty fulfill the unfulfilled wish of this noble man.Our country needs countless Manu Mias—driven by compassion and dedicated to humanity.
